Utilities to use ‘click-through’ signature process for demand response pilot

California’s investor-owned utilities will use a “click-through” electronic signature process for customers signing up to participate in a demand-response pilot instead of “wet” signatures, a requirement that is expected to boost participation in the pilot project.

The click-through process is common in online commerce and is used to collect electronic signatures to show that customers accept legal terms for online services and purchases, according to a recent decision by the California Public Utilities Commission.
