Since making the switch to single stream recycling, St. Lucie and Indian River Counties in Florida have seen an increase in their recycling rates. Indian River County’s recycling rate increased from 33 percent in 2014 to 53 percent in 2017, and St. Lucie’s recycling rate jumped from 39 percent in 2014 to 58 percent in 2017.
In addition to single stream recycling, the counties educate residents on the importance of recycling and what can and cannot be recycled.
