Asheville, NC is Focused on Curbing Food Waste

The U.S. wastes about 66.5 million tons of food. (USDA) And nearly half of the food is thrown out by consumers at home.

The city of Asheville, NC is focused on curbing food waste. Through the Natural Resources Defense Council Food Matters Project, the city is working with Orlando, Atlanta, Nashville and Memphis to identify a regional strategy to help cut food waste through comprehensive policies and programs.

Mayor Esther Manheimer said the city will “take a holistic approach to disrupting food waste.”
