CDC Announces More Cities That Will Begin Testing for Polio in Wastewater

After a man tested positive for polio outside of New York City earlier this year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention began testing for the disease in several wastewater treatment facilities across New York. Studying wastewater systems will allow for higher levels of observance to protect these communities. Philadelphia and Oakland County, Michigan, will be the next two cities to begin this kind of testing. If these pilots prove successful, more cities across the country will begin testing wastewater for polio and traces of other illnesses.
