Northeastern states sue EPA, want upwind states to control ozone

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, leading a coalition of Northeastern states, filed a lawsuit in U.S. district court early this month against the Environmental Protection Agency, seeking action by the EPA to control ground-level ozone, or smog, coming from upwind states.

The attorney general’s office said that New York and five other states want the EPA to act on a petition filed by Northeastern states in late 2013, asking the agency to add a nine upwind states to the Ozone Transport Region under the Clean Air Act.
