Illinois EPA issues permit to construct 1.1 GW combined cycle plant

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in late July issued a construction permit for a new 1,090 MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle plant.

The Lincoln Land Energy Center would be located near Pawnee in Sangamon County, Illinois, approximately 20 miles south of the state capital of Springfield.

EmberClear is developing the plant, with Siemens Energy, Siemens Financial Services, and Bechtel as partners.

Turbine and generator equipment would be supplied by Siemens. According to EmberClear, Lincoln Land Energy Center would be able to incorporate 30 % hydrogen and up to 100% within the lifespan of this project.
