This past weekend, about 330,000 people gathered together in Las Vegas to ring in 2018. The celebration consisted of an 8-minute fireworks display and other forms of entertainment.

After the celebration ended, 26 street sweepers from the county and the Nevada Department of Transportation cleared between 10 and 12 tons of trash from the Las Vegas Strip.

The New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square in New York City also generated a large amount of trash, including 3,000 pounds of confetti and about 50 tons of waste. The New York City Department of Sanitation used 30 mechanical brooms, 58 backpack blowers, 44 collection trucks and 58 hand brooms to clean up the city streets.
