The United Kingdom is using approximately 53 million single-use face masks daily.
Cardiff-based Thermal Compaction Group has developed specialized thermal heating machines that converts used PPE such as gowns and masks into reusable plastic blocks in one hour. The blocks are then collected, processed and redeveloped into new products such as school chairs and toolboxes.
The machines have been installed in inside five NHS hospitals. And an additional 11 NHS hospitals are due to receive the equipment, which reduces the physical size of the waste by 85 percent.
