The first double-lined cell at Utah’s Three Mile Canyon Landfill includes technology to prevent contaminants from reaching groundwater and a draining system to handle runoff. Last month, the double-lined cell received a truckload of trash that also contained dozens of cardboard boxes and plastic waste.
Summit County’s solid waste superintendent, who helped develop the double-lined cell, told the Park Record newspaper that other “exciting programs are on the horizon,” including cardboard bailing and composting.
