Utility suspends work on Mississippi “clean coal” project

Mississippi Power has suspended work on its Kemper integrated gasification combined-cycle power plant, which is about three years late in coming online and has seen its estimated cost jump from about $2.4 billion to $7.5 billion.

About $3.4 billion of the plant’s costs aren’t reflected in customer rates, according to the utility.
