Ten Cities Ban Together to Fight Food Waste

Pittsburgh is the latest city to join the Food Matters Regional Initiative aimed at reducing food waste.

The no-cost program has been launched in nine other cities including Atlanta; Ashville, NC; Baltimore; Jersey City, NJ; Memphis, TN; Nashville; Orlando, Fla.; Philadelphia; and Washington DC.

The collaborative aims to reduce waste through “prevention, food rescue, and recycling of food scraps.” The city of Pittsburgh is partnering with local nonprofit Sustainable Pittsburgh to get the wheels moving. City officials cite the move as part of its zero-waste goals.
