Adidas Has Sold More Than One Million Pairs of Sneakers Made from Ocean Plastic

Adidas, the German shoe and activewear manufacturer, has partnered with Parley, an organization that fights against ocean pollution, to produce shoes made from ocean plastic. More than a million pairs of the shoe have been sold, according to an announcement from Adidas.

On average, 11 plastic bottles are used to create each pair of shoes. Rival shoemakers Allbirds and Nike are also producing shoes from sustainable materials and achieving a great deal of success. Allbirds produces shoes from wool and eucalyptus tree fiber, while Nike recently released a shoe made from recycled leather fiber it calls Flyleather.
