Arizona utility to ramp up renewables, storage

In its latest integrated resource plan, filed early this month with Arizona regulators, Tucson Electric Power said it will continue to diversify its generation portfolio by expanding solar and wind generation, with a goal of delivering at least 30 percent of its power from renewable resources by 2030. The investor-owned utility said it also expects to make greater use of energy storage systems, noting that storage is “expected to rapidly decline in cost.”

TEP’s goal of deriving 30 percent or more of its power from renewable sources within the next 13 years is twice the level required by 2025 under Arizona’s renewable energy standard, the utility noted in an April 5 news release.
