Arizona lawmakers OK new rate plans, postpone net metering decision

The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) voted 4-1 last week to approve new rate plans proposed by UniSource Energy Services (UES), a subsidiary of UNS Energy.

UES announced that the average bills of typical residential users are expected to increase by about $4 per month under the new rates. pv magazine reported that the ruling upholds the current net metering rules in UNS Energy territory. The ACC passed a modified version of a proposed decision by an administrative law judge, pv magazine reported, stating that UNS must wait for the conclusion of a value of solar study before it can modify the basic net metering arrangement, impose solar-specific rates or impose demand charges.
