U.S. Landfills Are Getting a Second Life as Solar Farms

After a landfill reaches its capacity and is grassed over, the land that is created holds very few possible functionalities. Looking beyond golf courses, several governments across the United States are looking into and investing in another solution; brightfields.

A brightfield is a term being used to describe grassed over landfills that are then being turned into highly efficient solar power farms. With 207 megawatts worth of brightfield plans being announced in the year 2021, this use of capped landfills is becoming a unique and advantageous phenomenon.
