Finland’s Neste has conducted a trial using liquefied discarded tires to advance its chemical recycling.
In its trial, Neste turned pyrolysis oil gathered from discarded vehicle tires and produced high-quality raw materials for new plastics and chemicals. The pyrolysis oil was obtained from Scandinavian Enviro Systems, a company that develops technologies to recover materials from other end-of-life products.
Neste’s goal from this trial run was to evaluate the potential of chemical recycling beyond plastic waste. This would allow the company to broaden the pool of waste streams that can be processed into high-quality products.
