Glenwood Springs has decided to switch to a system that charges households for trash pickup based on the amount of trash they leave by the curb. This proposed change comes alongside one to offer free recycling. Though not passed yet, it is believed this Colorado city will put the program into action in 2023.
This switch comes as a result of the city noticing that 70-80 percent of the waste they currently send to their landfill is recyclable. They hope the change will allow them to reduce their waste stream and extend the life of their landfill.
