Southeast utility unveils deal to develop, construct 3,000 MW of wind power

Investor-owned utility Southern Company on Dec. 30 said that its Southern Power subsidiary has entered into a joint development agreement with Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. to develop and construct approximately 3,000 megawatts across 10 projects with commercial operation dates between 2018 and 2020.

In a news release, Southern said that Southern Power has also signed agreements to purchase wind turbine equipment from both Siemens and Vestas for use at the facilities.
