Missouri utility to retire 803-MW of coal generation

Missouri-based Kansas City Power & Light on June 2 said that it plans to retire 803 megawatts of coal-fired generation by the end of next year. The utility also plans to retire a 97-MW natural gas unit by the end of 2019.

KCP&L plans to retire six generating units at the company’s Montrose, Lake Road and Sibley Stations in Missouri.

The following coal-fired generation units will be retired by Dec. 31, 2018: Montrose 2 (164 MW), Montrose 3 (176 MW), Sibley 1 (48 MW), Sibley 2 (51 MW) and Sibley 3 (364 MW).
