The New Jersey Assembly on January 13 failed to vote on legislation that bans the sale of single-use plastics.

The bill, S2776 (Smith/Greeinstein)/S2776 (Pinkin), would prohibit the use of single-use plastic carryout bags and paper bags in stores and foodservice businesses and would ban foodservice businesses from offering single-use plastic straws. It would also ban the sale of polystyrene and would prohibit foodservice businesses from selling or providing food packaged in polystyrene containers.
