Trump signs order aimed at eliminating ‘Waters of US’ rule

On Feb. 28, President Trump signed an executive order directing the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to consider rescinding or revising their ‘Waters of the United States,’ also known as the WOTUS rule. The process of doing so could take some time, since final rules such as the water rule, or the EPA’s Clean Power Plan — another final rule that the president has vowed to scrap — cannot be rescinded easily or quickly.

The final WOTUS rule, a joint effort by the EPA and the Corps of Engineers, defines which streams, wetlands and other bodies of water are protected under the Clean Water Act.
