Second-largest E-waste Recycler in Oregon Shuts Down

ECS Refining, the second-largest e-waste recycler in the State of Oregon, shut down after a forced liquidation in bankruptcy court on July 2. ECS had been handling 41 percent of the material collected through the Oregon E Cycles program and breaking down TVs, computers and other electronics to remove toxic elements and recycle various components.

As a short-term solution, URT Solutions will start accepting the e-waste that ECS would have been taking in. And as a long-term solution, the state and two private entities that handle Oregon’s e-waste will work on finding a replacement.
