Shepherd University Facilities Director Launches Glass Recycling Program

Thanks to Shepard University’s Jim King, Shepherdstown, W. Va. residents now have a place to recycle their glass bottles.

King, the college’s facilities management director, recently secured a $17,305 Recycling Assistance Grant from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan to purchase a glass crusher and sifter.

While COVID-19 gave the program a delayed start, King now utilizes the GLSand compact glass bottle crusher to crush glass and use the sand produced for “landscaping, ice making, golf course bunkers, pool filtration systems, sand boxes, horse shoe pits, high-end sand blasting and concrete.”
