Chesapeake Utilities Corporation has embarked on a groundbreaking initiative by unveiling a renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at Full Circle Dairy (FCD) in Lee, Florida, signifying an important investment of $22 million. This cutting-edge establishment has been designed to transform dairy manure into pipeline-quality RNG, and it officially commenced operations in June 2024. Remarkably, the facility is expected to generate 100,000 dekatherms annually, efficiently capturing over 1,100 metric tons of methane. This transformative project boasts the potential to provide enough energy to power 3,500 homes each year, making a significant impact on both the environment and energy production.
The facility is managed by FPU Renewables LLC, a subsidiary of Florida Public Utilities, and it has already achieved a notable milestone by producing and injecting more than 18,000 dekatherms into the system since its inception. The RNG manufactured is transported by Marlin Gas Services, another subsidiary of Chesapeake Utilities, via a virtual pipeline to an injection point in Yulee, Florida, ultimately facilitating its distribution in Nassau County. This collaborative initiative between Chesapeake Utilities and Full Circle Dairy underscores their mutual commitment to renewable energy solutions, with a clear focus on innovation and community sustainability.
Moreover, Chesapeake Utilities’ Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Householder, emphasized that this project is a testament to the corporation’s proficiency in harnessing expertise across the energy value chain, from production to distribution. Aligning with the strategic goals of careful capital use and sustainability, the facility not only showcases advanced technology in reducing emissions but also illustrates a practical and scalable approach to environmental stewardship. Overall, this development represents a significant step forward in the integration of green technology and renewable resources, paving the way for more such endeavors in the future.
