New Recycling Center Planned Near Wymondham, Norfolk

Plans to commence work on a new recycling center in Wymondham, Norfolk, are set to begin this year. The project, which has been funded since 2020, faced delays due to the pandemic and the need for a complex drainage system. Senior county councilors are expected to endorse searching for a contractor to build the new, larger center near the B1172, south of Wymondham.

The current recycling center on Strayground Lane, one of the smallest of the 19 centers in Norfolk, opens only four days a week and cannot accept all forms of recycling mandated by government regulations. The new center will feature a Reuse shop for secondhand goods and will operate seven days a week, except Wednesdays, as part of a cost-saving measure. To further cut costs, a booking system for users and new charges for trade waste will be implemented.

Estimated at up to £3 million, the project is likely to begin this year if planning permission is granted in the spring or summer. The initiative aims to improve recycling services, increase capacity, and comply with broader recycling regulations.

The development of this new center is crucial for enhancing recycling infrastructure in Norfolk. By expanding operational days and introducing a range of new facilities and systems, the center will be better equipped to meet both local and national recycling standards. The project’s progress will significantly contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of waste management in the region.
