Republic Services has acquired Town & Country Sanitation and Peterson Sanitation, two private waste hauling companies in Wisconsin, effective May 1. These firms, owned by Doug Enke, offer waste and recycling services in Southwest and South Central Wisconsin and Northeast Iowa, serving about 100 municipalities. Town & Country started with a single truck in 1990, establishing its headquarters in Boscobel, Wisconsin, and opening a transfer station in Lone Rock in 2005. This acquisition boosts Republic’s presence in Wisconsin and the Midwest, aligning with its strategy of regional expansion.
In recent years, Republic Services has actively pursued business acquisitions, spending $826 million in the first quarter, mainly on Shamrock Environmental from North Carolina, and earmarking at least $1 billion for acquisitions this year. This latest acquisition signals Republic’s commitment to growth through strategic investments in the waste management sector.
Notably, this is the second significant acquisition in Wisconsin’s waste industry this year, following GFL Environmental’s purchase of LRS’ local assets. GFL has made several acquisitions in Wisconsin since securing a substantial divestiture package from WM. The increasing consolidation highlights a competitive environment among industry leaders, with major players like Republic Services reinforcing their market positions through targeted acquisitions and strategic expansions.
